Single Speed Love

From Mtn, to Road single speed riding gives you an incredible simple, easy, very lightweight, stand up sit down asphalt eating trail busting load of fun ride.
So I take out my new creation, a Lemond Tete De Course ti frame, with a new wheelset complete with a white industries ENO hub and Sram carbon crank. What a blast. Compared to the 2008 Madone I usually ride, this thing is suprisingly entertaining. The single gear makes gear decisions and position as to when to stand and when to power through sitting down very simple. Complete the bike weighs in at @ 16 lbs, the same weight as my Madone and just flys. I usually run a compact gear set and on the single speed I set up a 39 - 16 that moves. I tried it out on a commute to work and back for about 16 miles. Great fun, and I can't believe the weight. I immidiately want to go buy a carbon track frame and try to get the thing under 12lbs, that would fly.
To sum it up. The single speed is very much as enjoying as the geared bike, easier to ride and just as much fun. For all you out there that have been thinking of setting up a single speed, do it. What a blast.

The next big question, HOW BOUT A FIXIE?
