Many words can describe the road race held in Waddy this past Sunday, however unlike the forcast, it was nothing that could have been predicted. This 10 mike circuit held many challenges for all racers. A course made up of mostly smooth, fresh pavement led its way into chip and seal corners, 40+ mph decents, and a simple heart busting quick little climb that seperated the men from the boys. Then add a little gusty wind and the horn went off.
On this day, although I sped through the first 6 miles of the 10 mile course with 70 of my fellow catagory racers, I was but a boy watching the men ride away. 24 miles later, including 5 heart rate spikes over 200 bpm I crossed the line somewhere around 5 minutes off the pace. I never did see the tail end of the main field again, and though it was led and won by a teamate, he and the field of riders I was chasing beat on me like only my real brother could, as he is and always will be. His wheel was again the only thing that was to be counted on. Faster than the rest on this day, draped in colors from Scheller's Fitness & Cylcing, a very solid break was made that was never caught, and another win to the man on blue, in blue.
Great race guys, great day, great job Nate.
