Lost Fashion - Classic Styles
I gotta tell you, I really have a thing for the classic looking bicycle. Yes I do have a new carbon bike, and no I don't hate carbon aero wheels, but I have always loved that classic steel Colnago Master with downtube shifters and open pro rims. Anyone feel the same? I mean, I do think that todays bikes are the best they have ever been. My Madone is the lightest, stiffest, sleekest bike I have ever ridden, a Ferrari in the cycling world, and although it is costly, it doesn't carry that priceless feel I have toward my classic ti frame. I love riding todays carbon, but it just doesn't look like the bikes I can remember staring at in the Tour when I was growing up. I always find myself looking for that agless Bianchi, or Paramount frame. For a few years I used to ride a Guerciotti, I thought that thing was the shit. Steel frames always have larger sizes, and smaller tubes giving the emphasis to the frame not the wheels, and even then they were fast and light. All things considered I don't think I could ever turn down a good deal on a classic. Here's to keeping them alive and kicking.
